Our past childhood relationships with our mothers, our fathers and the overall connection we experienced in our parents’ marriages form the backdrop for our emotional readiness for motherhood. Is it taking you way too long to get pregnant? Are you worried that you will never be able to conceive your own biological child? Is the stress of not being able to start a family leaving you feeling completely hopeless? I WAS THERE! Like many women out there I have always dreamed of the day I would become a mother. However, after many long years of painful waiting and riding the emotional rollercoaster of infertility I was able to get pregnant with my beautiful baby girl.

I am not a doctor by any means, but many consider me an expert in this field, and I do have many firsthand accounts and experiences dealing with fertility issues. Here’s my story, I first started trying to get pregnant at the age of twenty, I honestly thought it would happen right away. I thought I’m young, I’m healthy, and I had spent years trying to prevent pregnancy so what would be the reason why I wouldn’t instantly get pregnant as soon as I got off my birth control pills, boy was I wrong! As soon as I stopped taking my birth control pills I started eating and exercising much healthier as if I already was pregnant, I even started taking a prenatal vitamin. However, to my great disappointment a year had gone by with no pregnancy action at all, and I began to wonder “What’s wrong with me? Why can’t I get pregnant?” It seemed like everyone around me was pregnant or announcing pregnancy news. Family, friends, co-workers, and even celebrities were all celebrating baby news, I was depressed. Finally, I went to see a doctor (an Ob/GYN) and he tested my hormones, checked me for PCOS (Polycystic ovary syndrome), and other fertility issues and finally deemed me as having unexplained infertility. I was terrified, even the doctor couldn’t pinpoint what was wrong. I then went through the trials and tribulations of Clomid, getting monthly progesterone checks, charting temperatures, ovulation tests, and procedures such as hysterosalpingograms or HSG (flushing of the fallopian tubes). In addition, my husband also had to have a sperm count which he wasn’t too thrilled about, but did it to rule out a male infertility problem. However, with all of this medical intervention and not much for results I started combining a little natural intervention as well. I researched books, magazines, and the internet for hours at a time trying to get my hands on anything that I could to help me to conceive. My motto was if it worked for someone, it might work for me and that is how I finally got pregnant!
