Pregnancy is a time that is filled with anticipation. The first time a woman feels her baby kick, she can’t help but feel a rush of excitement as she imagines her new baby’s personality, smile, tiny hands, tiny feet. With so much to think about, it is important to pay attention to proper nutrition. Your doctor should have made sure that you are taking enough folic acid, an extremely important part of your diet that is crucial in lowering the risk of birth defects in your baby. Most women take a daily prenatal vitamin to make sure that enough folic acid is in their diet. This is crucial in the first 12 weeks, because this is the time that small changes in your vitamin levels can have a big impact on your baby’s development. A prenatal vitamin typically contains Folic Acid and Iron, because a lot of women become iron deficient (anemic) due to their pregnancy.

Another excellent supplement that pregnant women should consider is a daily multivitamin. It has been shown in a recent scientific study involving a close analysis of 36,000 recent mothers, that those who took both a prenatal vitamin and a multivitamin were 17% less likely to have a baby with a low birth weight. It is well worth the cost of a daily supplement to ensure such an important health benefit for your baby.

How long to get back prenatal blood work?

hi everyone! I just need some advice as for the past few days I’ve been having extremem panic and anxiety over the fact that last week I had my prenatal labs done! ugh! …. I realize that I would get a call if anything was seriously wrong but how long on average do you think it takes the lab to get the results to the doctor? Just curious!

also, has anyone else ever had anxiety over these tests? I feel silly but I’m really quite nervous!
Anyone else find it much easier to just worry about screwing up YOURSELF instead of a little baby! .. ugh .. my anxiety is sky high!

can prenatal depression affect my baby?

I am 25 weeks pregnant, and I cannot stop crying. I feel like I am not making anyone happy. We have just moved house, and my husband has not stopped complaining about the house, although I have worked really hard to make it a nice place for us to raise our baby. My parents hate the name we have chosen for our son, and give me grief everyday about it. I’m not even going to say what it is here, in fear I will get berated and upset even further.
I know these problems sound stupid, but I am crying non stop because of them and I am worried if being this upset can have a detrimental effect on my little boy. Does anyone know if stress or depression can have an effect on an unborn baby?
