Miscarriages mostly occur in the first 13 weeks of pregnancy and this is the time that one needs to take special care. The reason could be due to defects found in the baby’s chromosomes or any serious illness that the mother catches in the initial stages such as pneumonia.

Six Reasons To Hire A Doula

There are many benefits to having a doula assist you and your partner through your labour and birth. Without going into all the scientific studies that seem to be quoted almost everywhere, I thought it would be interesting to talk about the top six from a more emotional standpoint.

Mothers who have a doula often feel more secure and cared for. The prenatal and labour stages can be a very emotional and stressful time for many mothers. A good doula will be able to anticipate some of your needs as well as be familiar with many of the common insecurities that go hand in hand with being pregnant. While it is very beneficial to have the support of a loving spouse, expecting them to be your sole support person is like asking them to coach a baseball game without knowing the rules or having ever played the game. The type of emotional support that a doula (especially a doula who is a mother) can provide is immeasurable. In order to benefit from this unique support it is important to make sure that you and your doula have a great “fit”. When there is a strong emotional connection, you will be able to more easily share your feelings and experiences. Your doula will be more effective in meeting your needs and using her experience to help you feel good about the birthing process.

Prenatal Vitamins and Morning Sickness

At some point during a woman’s pregnancy, she has a 50% chance of experience morning sickness.

Here are some of the most common symptoms and options for dealing with them.

Did you know that sometimes prenatal vitamins can bring on your morning sickness symptoms. The reason for this isn’t widely known–it depends on the person. While some vitamins (like B6) can be helpful in treating your symptoms, other vitamins (like Iron) can bring on an attack. Body chemistry is very complicated and is more so during pregnancy. Unfortunately you can’t just stop taking your vitamins because you have nutritional needs that have to be met. For this reason, if you are experiencing serious morning sickness symptoms, you should ask your doctor about modifying your intake of vitamins.

Question by papapam: What does maternal depression referrers to?
I’m doing research on the topic of “maternal depression” but I need clarification on something:some places defined maternal depression in four areas–prenatal depression; baby blues; postpartum depression and postpartum psychosis. Other places defined maternal depression as type of depression that comes after postpartum depression. In other words if postpartume depression last more than usual then it becomes maternal depression.
I want to know if the term maternal depression is used to define the four types of depression mentioned above or does maternal depression comes after postpartum depression?
