Do you think I should take this medication while pregnant?
I’m 13 weeks pregnant and i have extreme migraines. I’ve always had migraines but since becoming pregnant i get it more often. My OBGYN prescribed me some medications. ON Sunday morning I went to fill my prescription along with my prenatal medication, and the pharmacist was very hesitant about given me the medication. He told me this medication is part of the FDA pregnancy risk Category C. There’s been reports of babies being born with physical abnormalities. Women who’ve taking this medication during their 3rd trimester have had infants who had seizures due to the withdrawal and they get ventilatory depression. He really didnt want me to take the medicine. I didn’t take it. I called my doctor today and he said it was fine. I don’t even know what to do. The medicine contains acetaminophen, butalbital and caffeine.

Why take the chance when it can effect your child’s whole life.
i think you shouldnt take it.. your putting your baby at risk
Consult a 2nd OB/GYN about the drug and get a 2nd opinion. A lot of Class C drugs are only that way because there’s been limited research on them.
Please, do not take it, it can be harmful for the fetus. Try acupucture.
I think that you should go with your gut… and your gut is obviously telling you not to take it.
Your doctor probably thinks that the risk of harm to the baby is lower than the positive outcome of you not having such bad migraines (are they debilitating?) but I think that it is better for you to suffer than for the baby to suffer. Next apointment, tell your doctor that you want a different medication with less risk of side effects (knowing that it will likely be less effective) and if he/she does not respect your choice, then I would certainly consider switching OBs.
Even now, I would consider getting a second opinion from another OB.
I’m sure your doctor took your pregnancy into account when prescribing. Who would you trust more, someone who has been through several years of medical school and residencies or someone who spent 4 years in pharmacy school? If you’re still concerned you should ask your doctor about specific worries you have, or get a second opinion from another OB/GYN.
I take effexor 300mg and 50mg of trazodone everyday for anxiety and panic attacks. With out the meds I wouldn’t be able to function. I checked the internet and have been getting mixed reviews. Some say its harmful for the fist trimester and some say its bad in the last trimester. My medication is category C as well. You need to ask your self do you need it or can the medication wait until after the baby. I hate taking medication while being pregnant and If i didn’t have to I wouldn’t.
This is a tough problem to have. You have to think whats good for you and your baby. This video has lots of good information about medication for pregnant women. Take a look I think it will help.
