I first heard about Enfamil Expecta Lipil at a pregnancy nutrition course led by a nurse, who worked in prenatal for over 30 years. Since this is my first pregnancy, I didn’t realize that omega-3 fatty acids were beneficial to the brain development of the growing embryo and fetus. I only knew at the time that pregnant women were supposed to be taking prenatal vitamins. I started taking Expecta Lipil around the 4th month of pregnancy. I figure it’s never too late to start since I only learned of such information during my 2nd trimester. I am now starting my 3rd trimester.
I recommend this product based on several factors: 1. I didn’t experience any side effects. 2. The product is manufactured by Mead Johnson, a reputable manufacturer of baby products. 3. The softgel is easily taken with my prenatal vitamins after a meal. 4. This brand was recommended by a seasoned health professional. 5. The product will definitely benefit my growing baby. 6. The purchase of a pack of 2 (60 gels total)definitely saved me some money. I ordered several packs to last for the duration of my pregnancy.
I only gave 4 out of 5 stars because initially I had difficulty removing a softgel from its blister packaging. The backing was not perforated. To easily remove a softgel, I punctured the backing with my thumb nail to tear it off. Also, absorption information was neither provided on the box nor at the manufacturer’s website. This information would be helpful for the curious mother to roughly determine the amount of fatty acids that actually migrates into our bloodstream. This would allow me to keep track of my nutritional intake during my pregnancy. (In case you are wondering, I have a science background and have been working for the pharmaceutical industry for almost a decade.)

My OB recommended I take these supplements while pregnant and nursing. This is a great solution for getting your daily DHA since you don’t really want to take Fish Oil pills while pregnant, nor eat too much mercury-ridden fish. Finally a good alternative; now I know I’m not missing this critical substance for my growing baby!

I am 31 weeks pregnant and have been taking these pills for a little over a month now. I have no idea if it works to make brain development greater for children, but hey…why not try?! We’ve all always heard so much good about the importance of DHA and omega fatty acids. This is a convenient way to get almost the entire recommended daily dose. My husband has named them the “Smarty Pant Pills” as he’s determined they will help our first child grow healthy and strong mentally. We’ll see. I enjoy doing anything I can to help our baby get the best beginning from the start.
I did a lot of research on price comparisons. Buying in bulk through Amazon (especially since it had free shipping with so much of a purchase) was the best deal I could find. Don’t buy too much at once, though. The expiration for my pills was in 2009 (10/09). I wouldn’t want someone to overstock where they’d expire before they got to the end of the pile, especially if using during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

In my first prenatal visit my doctor told me to take DHA on top of the prenatal vitamins I was taking already. Since I had already bought a year’s supply of the prenatal pills (Twin Labs, highly recommend) I needed a separate DHA pill. I took some Nature Made stuff that was like torture due to the smell and taste! This brand of DHA is very easy to take – small gelcaps with no taste. I highly recommend this pill if you’re looking for a DHA supplement. Here’s to a smart baby!!!

My wife has been using this since she was pregnant. It was suggested by an officemate. I do not have a yardstick on how it has affected our baby’s growth and development except for comparing him with other babies but it makes sense that they both need DHA anyway so i hope its helping them both.
