I’m nervous about my prenatal visits?
I picked a clinic that is supposed to have the best of the best care but I am really nervous. What should I do? How did you handle having your blood drawn? Quench you fists to not feel the pain, listen to music to soothe you…? I have tried to self-manage my General Anxiety Disorder.

My mom had a needle phobia. Look away, hold your breath while the needle is put in. Then breath slowly in and out. Also, to make things go quicker, drink plenty of water before your appointment. Makes it easier to get the vein and a quick blood draw.
just sit there… dont look.. and carry on a conversation with the flabotomist…..
They won’t need to draw blood every time you go. If you have a good phlebotomist it won’t take long either. If it has been difficult to get blood in the past let them know. For me the tightness of the rubber band thing is worse than the actual needle.
They will take your blood at first visit, and then when you are like 17 weeks they will do the blood test for downs if you want it. After that I don’t know. I used to be the biggest baby when it came to getting my blood drawn. I would freak out and sometimes get up and leave or start crying. When I got my blood drawn at first prenatal I told myself this would be the first of many blood tests and Iv’s and eventually labor. I took a deep breath, I did’nt even feel it go in lol, Just relax and approach it as something you have to do
I HATE having blood drawn. Although Im not afraid of needles, (i have pierceings) go figure. I can handle shots and everything but hate having my blood being drawn.
Here is a tip. Ask for a butterfly needle. They are very small and almost painless. And if you know one arm is better than the other let them know. They can never get anything from my left arm so everytime i go in I say “butterfly needle in the right arm.” They always do it. And it helps me
