Pregnancy, Vacation Anxiety and also you!

Article by CheKon tol10

The season of joy can indeed be joyous, but for many people today it also implies cramming huge amounts of activity into a tiny quantity of time. Though Holiday gift shopping and business and social celebrations are fun, they arrive using the need to prepare significant meals, cope with relatives and in-laws, worry concerning the cost of new clothes and additional food, end of year taxes, finances in common, bonus anxiety and also job security. This sort of pressure can bring on huge quantities of anxiety and will drive you nuts (not the warm chestnut kind) incredibly rapidly in the event you let it.

For mothers-to-be, how does all of this stress impact her pregnancy? Can maternal psychiatric conditions including depression, anxiety, and anxiety adversely affect the baby when pregnant during the holiday season? This particular region of concern has often been debatable but review of recent scientific literature has shown some surprising results relating to the relationship between psychiatric conditions as well as the possibility of affecting the uteroplacental environment… and consequently the fetus.

Anxiety over bloodwork..?

Question by Ester: Anxiety over bloodwork..?
I had my blood drawn at my first prenatal appointment and almost passed out. Everything turned black but I don’t think I fully passed out. By the time it was over I was covered in sweat and shaking so bad. I go tomorrow for my glucose tolerance test. I have to get my finger pricked, and if that level is high I have to do more tests, which calls for more blood work. Does anyone have any tips to help me handle this? It doesn’t hurt, it’s just the needles and blood that give me horrible anxiety. I am already freaking out over tomorrow and it’s just a tiny prick! Help! :(

Concentration problems and anxiety?

Question by Heather: Concentration problems and anxiety?
I have been having cognitive problems recently, as well as some minor memory loss. I am also having some trouble concentrating. I was wondering what this could be.

A little background:
I am a 21 year old college student. I am a female. I do have GAD, and lately existential anxiety. I do maintain a very poor diet. I am sure that I get all of the vitamins and minerals I need, but I do take in a lot of sugar and fat out of convenience. I hardly ever exercise, other than at work. About six months ago I switched from working days to working overnight.Since a couple of months after I started on overnights, I have been switching to sleeping nights on my days off for school. I work 3 days on, 4 off. I wasn’t sure if this could contribute.

pill swallowing anxiety?

Question by guppy: pill swallowing anxiety?
I need to take my prenatal’s. With my first child, I purchased over ten different brands of prenatal’s to find one that was small enough for me to swallow. i have been taking those for years, now I am pregnant with my second child and I’ve just ran out of the small prenatal’s. I went out and bought new ones as I can’t seem to find the same brand I could use. The pills are one tablet and one liquid. I was able to take them both the first two days with minimal fear. Now for the last three days I have been unable to take the tablet. I know the inability is anxiety not physical. I also know, I need to take these vitamins. Does any one have any suggestions?
Another fear, is I try to swallow the pill long ways cause im afraid it will get stuck if it is swallowed horizontally, as the pills are thin and long. Is this possible?

Being a mom is a milestone to millions of women. Once the baby arrived, some young moms found themselves feeling trapped in an overwhelming situation.

New mothers are more and more open to the fact that Postnatal Yoga can help women minimize the risk of developing Post Natal Depression (PND, a clinical depression) or even worse a Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD, a serious sort of anxiety often associated with those experiencing assault or people living in war torn areas).

1 in 10 women experience PND. The condition can last for weeks, months, or if the patient doesn’t receive a proper care – for years.

Postpartum depression (PPD) Postpartum Anxiety (PPA) have become a national epidemic in the United States, affecting 15%-20% of all new mothers, or about 600,000-800,000 women annually. (1) It is now estimated that over 30 million Americans are on antidepressant or anti-anxiety medications. (2) The majority of this 30 million are women who have one or more children. The chance of suffering from PPD increases with each successive child. (3)

The most common medical treatment for postpartum depression is SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) antidepressant drugs. Postpartum Anxiety Disorder is most commonly treated by the benzodiazepine family of drugs like Valium, Ativan, Xanax, and Klonopin. Combination reuptake inhibitors for both serotonin and norepinephrine (SNRIs) are also commonly used in postpartum depression. In the case of postpartum psychosis, antipsychotic drugs are used and are immediately necessary. Many women are now given samples of SSRIs as they are leaving the maternity ward. Most medical sources believe that PPD is caused by an imbalance of brain chemistry and that pharmaceutical intervention is the treatment of choice. While a certain percentage of women suffering from PPD do need pharmaceutical assistance, these are far fewer than are actually receiving them. Recent Meta-studies show this to be true.  While it is clear that some women with PPD do need and benefit from pharmaceutical intervention, it is our experience that an integrative approach yields the best results.
