Post natal depression is very serious.
You feel totally unconnected to the child and resent the child and the responsibilites with it. You feel nothing but depression, a dark cloud, you cry and think that your life is over.
I had it with my second child who was an accident and was born less than 11 months after the first newborn.
Already having to take care of a newborn and be pregnant and soon having 2 infants was hell.
It is something I would not wish on my worst ennemy. The thoughts are so dark, you cannot see a future for yourself, you do not count etc. you are unable to feel love for the child but go through the motions.
Basically it is very very deep deep depression. Instead of being happy you experience the total opposite.
I think each women who went through it had different stories to be honest.
I sought medical help with antidepressants. It kind of helped somewhat.
I do not really remember it since it was a while ago but it was hell…especially when people congratulate you and on and on.. The guilty part is the worst.
A few years ago, a woman ( and psychologist by trade !) killed hersef and her newborn. She felt that she ought to know better but had noone to turn to.
She jumped along with the baby under a train.
That is how serious it can become.
One celebrity suffered from it ..what is her name …and Tom Cruise was advocating vitamins gosh !!!!
It is mental..I did not experience it with my first child but the second one…..it was truly hell and i had no one to confide too either.
I am not going to post the whole story……but I really think there is more than just hormones.
